Buenos Aires

Doing business
Personal relationships are very important when doing business in Buenos Aires so take time to chat about non-work-related topics and get to know your contacts. Most business in Argentina is done in Spanish so consider getting some business cards printed in the language and learning a few phrases. Conservative dress is also important.

Cool hotel
Hotel Lafayette www.lafayettehotel.com.ar is a good bet. It is spacious and elegant and in a good location in the city centre near to the pedestrianised streets of Florida and Lavalle which are prime shopping areas. There is also a sauna and gym which are perfect to unwind in after a long day.

Hip restaurant
Buenos Aires is a foody's paradise so travellers will have no problem finding a delicious meal. Sabot (25 de Mayo 756, tel 4313 6587) is one of the prime locations for a business lunch. It offers traditional food and, according to some, the capital’s best pepper steak. Main dishes start from around £4 and reservations are recommended in advance.

Happening bar
Debar (Av Rivadavia 1132, tel 4381 6876) is a popular hangout for business people, travellers and expats alike, and makes a good spot for a post-work drink. Another bonus is that there is a nightly happy hour here until midnight.

Getting downtown
From Ezeiza airport you can take a shuttle bus to the city which should cost around £5 and take around 40 minutes. Alternatively you can grab a cab – for the best rates go to the city’s official taxi stand, Taxi Ezeiza, which will charge around £15.

The details
